"Thoughtweft Trio" is a 5/5 white kithkin soldier printed as a rare for the Magic the Gathering expansion set known as "Lorwyn." This is one of the several cards printed in Lorwyn that encourage players to build around a theme of creatures. In this respect, Thoughtweft Trio encourages players to build around the theme of kithkins. In a kithkin deck, Thoughtweft Trio is a pretty good card to have. When combined with kithkins and soldiers, Thoughtweft Trio becomes pretty impressive.
The converted mana cost for Thoughtweft Trio is four. You will need two white mana and two colorless mana to play Thoughtweft Trio on the battlefield. For what Thoughtweft Trio can do, the converted mana cost is well worth it. When Thoughtweft Trio is put onto the battlefield, you have to Champion a Kithkin. If not, Thoughtweft Trio is sacrificed and sent to the graveyard. When you Champion a Kithkin, you temporarily remove a kithkin you control from the game. For the time being, that kithkin is Exiled from the game as long as Thoughtweft Trio is on the battlefield.
What does Thoughtweft Trio do in the first place?
The first ability of Thoughtweft Trio is First Strike. Should it be blocked or blocking, Thoughtweft Trio will be the first to deal combat damage. If the other creature dies, it does not deal damage back to Thoughtweft Trio. However, this does not worth against creatures that have First Strike. When going up against another creature with First Strike, the ability fizzles and regular damage dealing returns. However, you could always enchant or equip Thoughtweft Trio with something that gives Double Strike.
The second ability of Thoughtweft Trio is Vigilance. Vigilance means that Thoughtweft Trio can attack without having to tap. This is handy because Thoughtweft Trio can attack and defend at the same time. First Strike is a handy ability for creatures acting as defenders.
The main ability allows Thoughtweft Trio to block any number of creatures. In this respect, Thoughtweft Trio could block up to six creatures and return unscathed via First Strike. In this respect, Thoughtweft Trio would deal damage to the opponent's creatures first provided that none are powerful enough and none have either First Strike or Double Strike.
In this respect, Thoughtweft Trio makes an excellent blocker. Since this is also a soldier, you can combine this with "Captain of the Watch." Captain of the Watch gives all other soldiers +1/+1. In turn, you can make Thoughtweft Trio into a 6/6 creature.
Also, one should add in "Cenn's Tactician." By paying one white mana, you can tap Cenn's Tactician and put a +1/+1 counter on a soldier you control. Before each turn, you can do this and gradually increase the power and toughness of Cenn's Tactician. In this respect, Thoughtweft Trio becomes very powerful. This is a crucial combination due to Thoughtweft Trio being able to block any number of creatures.
Overall, Thoughtweft Trio is great for the most part. However, it is best to use Thoughtweft Trio as a defender. If you can increase its power and toughness, Thoughtweft Trio can save you big time.
