What should you wear to a winter wedding?

If you are going to a winter wedding you will want to wear an outfit that is both stylishly appropriate and warm, so that you feel comfortable and happy with your appearance. Winter brings with it a different color palette than summer, and means that you may need to consider darker, warmer shades, as well as clothing which will keep out seasonal chills.

# Dress Code;

As with weddings that take place during any season, you will need to find out if there is a dress code you are expected to adhere to. If there is, this will give you a good idea about the type of style of dress you will need to stick to. A black tie wedding generally means that men are supposed to wear a tuxedo, and women a formal dress. A more casual affair will mean that you have more leeway when it comes to a choice of style.

# Venue;

Exactly where the wedding is to take place should also be taken into consideration when you choose an outfit. If you will be expected to spend a lot of time out doors in a cold climate, or an evening in a draughty castle, you will need to wear something fashionable and warm.

A winter wedding that is to take place in a heated hotel, may mean that you don't need to concentrate so much on keeping warm, and can consider different options.

# Colors;

During spring and summer weddings guests tend to wear brighter colors than they would for autumn or winter weddings. Winter wedding outfits are best kept to deeper shades, such as berry red, plum, navy blue and forest green. White is traditionally kept for the bride, and too much black isn't appropriate.

# Winter Warmers;

There are many types of clothing that can keep you warm and stylish at a wedding. A beautifully crocheted wrap, or velvet stole can keep your shoulders warm, while a 1920's inspired fake fur cape can add glamour to an outfit and help you to feel that you are wearing something special and different to your usual winter attire.

A fitted woolen jacket in a deliciously warm color, or an embroidered shawl can keep you especially warm when needed, and can be removed when you enter a warmer climate as the day or evening progresses.

# Footwear;

If it is likely that you will be walking on grass, stilettos are not a great idea unless you want to collect clods of mud under your instep. Instead opt for a classic pair of kitten heeled boots, or shoes which can easily be wiped clean when you switch venues. Avoid Ugg boots on this occasion and anything clumpy, however comfortable they are, unless you want to feel out of place.

# Secret Insulation;

What you wear on the outside can be viewed by others. However, what you choose as underwear is nobodies business but your own. If you tend to suffer from the cold and know that you are likely to get chilly, invest in some warm undergarments, and take a spare set of cooler ones in your handbag in case you change you mind and feel too warm later on. This way you can be cosy and attractive all day and night if necessary, and will be able to concentrate on the celebrations at hand rather than your comfort.
