Spyware and viruses contrary to popular belief cannot attack your computer unless they are allowed to or unless they are loaded. You may not realise where they are coming from but they need your help to attack you. The first thing you should do is to install all the security software you can and then keep it all up to date. Make sure that it covers all the the things you need, is one that is recommended by experts and wont conflict with any other software that you have loaded. It is equally bad to have too much protection as it is to have too little.
Once you have recommenced software to block spyware, viruses and other malicious software then make sure they are loaded and that updates are regularly checked for. When ever the software warns you of a potential problem first rule is to take notice of the warning, it will offer you the chance to carry on but if you are not sure then don't. The updates to the protection are so that it is up to-date with all possible threats that the manufactures are aware of. I f you are downloading from a site you have used before and can trust then you may well be able to continue after a warning, unless totally sure then don't carry on. Whatever you try and download be very careful as the biggest threats to your computer are specially designed to look great and to look attractive.
One common way to spread viruses is to get people to download a program in order to access a certain piece of information they are interested in. A common way is with certain pornographic sites, you may get to a place where you will be offered free porn if you download a certain file or tool-bar. In nearly every case there will be a virus or some other malicious piece of software attached that could do your computer some serious harm. Also bear in mind that if you want it there is plenty of free porn available without any downloads. The same trick is also used in certain downloads or emails that offer you the chance to see naked pictures of your favourite celebrity, again all are malicious.
Something else to be aware of are flashing lights and random images on website pages for all sites. For example on the average facebook page you will find at least 6 adverts for other sites and a number of press here to continue logos. Chances are that some or or all are linked to fake programs that may cause you trouble. I f on facebook or any other site be very carefully which places you click and where you are led. Even some advertised games on these sites could be equally bad for you.
Finally the most common way to receive malicious programs is through emails, if they are shown in email as junk then leave them there. Equally if they tell you to load a program and your computer software questions it then again don't download it. Only download programs from official discs, from sites you can trust or from places you have asked for software from. if not sure of security or source then avoid at all costs.
