At the Rainbow Bridge
God knew that even after life his children would have grief
If they should lose the comfort of those they'd left behind.
So He created heaven as a place to rest and meet
With all of their beloved ones, until the end of time.
But one day a little child came, asking, Sir, where is my pet?
Near tears, he said, Has he wandered here by any chance?
He left me like my Nana and my Papa, and my favorite uncle Brett,
But Patches hasn't greeted me with his joyful happy dance.
The Lord took the crying child and held him in his arms,
Then carried him to where the arching rainbow touched the ground,
After it had spread its mantle over cities, seas and farms,
And in that place of golden peace he set the child down.
He whistled sharply a come hither call that carried on the breeze,
And before the child could catch his breath he heard a happy sound,
The joyful yelping of a pup as lively as you please,
Then over the arching rainbow the little dog did bound.
Patches! cried the child in rapture, and quickly ran to meet
His lifelong friend and confident, who promptly licked his face.
The child gathered up his pup and turned with glowing cheeks,
Thank you, sir, thanks so much. You are the Lord of Grace!
