Does one go to hell for suicide?

"No man taketh [my life], but I lay it down of myself." John 10:18. If suicide will send you to hell, then Jesus would be there. However, Jesus is in Heaven sitting at the right hand of the Father. Jesus committed suicide when He died on the cross for all sins, including suicide.

If you are a truly born again Christian, then NO! Suicide will not send a Christian to Hell. Suicide is self murder. It falls in the same line with homicide, genocide, infanticide, etc. These are all acts of sin. The Bible says that once we are saved, all our sins are forgiven - past, present, and future. AMEN!

People who go to hell do so not because they committed suicide, but because they failed to trust Jesus Christ as their Savior.

I neither condemn nor condone suicide. Many have committed suicide, just as Jesus did, in order to save the lives of other people. This is called sacrificing. Think about those soldiers who have fought for America's freedom.

The Bible says in Romans 8:38-39 that nothing can separate us from the love of God. This includes death. Self murder cannot separate a Christian from the Creator.

When the Devil attacks a Christian and that person becomes weak and commits suicide, that sin is still covered by the blood of Jesus.

But that raises another question. Why would any genuine born again Christian have a desire to take their own life? What circumstances are there that justify suicide? We have faith in our Lord and Savior Jesus.

If a Christian does decide to commit suicide, they are in essence saying that God has placed too much of a load on them. They lack the short term promise that "God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able, but will...make a way for you to escape that ye might be able to bear it." 1 Corinthians 10:13. They think that God is just too busy to listen to their problems.

Suicide is a sin, but it will not send a Christian to Hell. If your son commits suicide, he is still your son. That fact doesn't change. If you are a child of God, no matter what you do, you are still His child.

Instead of focusing on suicide, think about being on God's side. Jesus is on the inside. And the Holy Spirit is always on our side.
