Of course not! The guy's sarcasm and outbursts of cruel truth have made the show the enormous ratings success it is today. The evil Englishman has made some public gripes about how tired he is of seeing the never-ending parade of no-talent losers, and hints that he may need a rest or resignation. Don't you believe it. First, the guy most likely owns a big financial piece of the show, and is raking in mucho dinero. Second, he knows that American Idol is popular because the viewing public relates sympathetically to the poor wretches who must endure his painful words and orders to go back to the obscurity they so richly deserve.
Simon Cowell knows full well that most of the hapless contestants would never have a chance in real life for meaningful show business careers. Therefor, it is evident that the show's talent coordinators deliberately bring in a large supply of embarrassingly bad contestants and sprinkle a couple of talented ringers among them. Happily for those fortunate few, the exposure on TV's top-rated program has launched them into career opportunities they would have never had before.
As long as enough untalented contestants are dragged in to face the wrath of Cowell and his fellow critics, and the show's cameramen can follow them around to get their looks of hope and bitter tears of rejection, the show will continue to be a big success.
