Individuals each have their own body insecurities that may seem minor to others around them, but which really undermine their confidence levels. They convince themselves that they are too fat or too thin, too small or too short, that their nose is too big, that their ears stick out, that they have too many wrinkles, or that their breasts are too small or too large. Everybody has their own idea of what constitutes perfection, and when ordinary individuals look in the mirror they don't see this; they simply see someone who is extremely flawed. Some people are so preoccupied with their supposed flaws that they even undergo cosmetic surgery in the belief that doing so will give them more confidence.
A few decades ago it would have been virtually inconceivable for ordinary individuals to decide to have cosmetic surgery, since it was out of most people's price range. Unless an individual happened to be rich and famous, members of the public didn't really have a choice but to live with their 'flaws'. However, the cost of cosmetic surgery has been tumbling, whilst the coverage it has received due to the number of celebrities having work done and the prevalence of documentaries examining cosmetic surgery has alerted many people to the possibility of cosmetic surgery. People who aren't very confident with their bodies start to think that surgery could be the answer to their problem.
Instead of just accepting the way they look and learning to grow old gracefully, more people are turning to cosmetic surgery as a way of improving their appearance or maintaining a youthful glow. If individuals are preoccupied with their large nose and have been teased about it in the past it is hardly surprising that they'll try and rid themselves of the 'problem' by opting for surgery if need be. If they have the money and they feel that their confidence will be boosted by undergoing surgery then they now have the option to do so.
There are plenty of procedures to choose from, with some being more invasive than others, and some individuals who have long had a problem with the way they look are quite prepared to face the risk of dying in surgery or developing complications. It is more convenient for individuals to ignore the possibility of dying as a result of having surgery to improve their looks since they are so lacking in confidence that they will choose to have surgery regardless. It is clear that people who don't feel very confident with their appearance regard cosmetic surgery as the best way to improve their looks and boost their confidence in the process, though whether this is always the case is another matter.
