Indexing is the best way to get your blog indexed and noticed by aggregators. Indexing a blog refers to the blog becoming recognized by a search engine. Today, most bloggers would want to initially index their blog with major search engines such as Google or Bing. By indexing a blog, the blog is more likely to show up in searches and thus more likely to be visited by readers.
The first idea to realize regarding indexing is that it can happen without the blogger doing anything other than blogging. By focusing on content and writing consistent and interesting posts, a blogger is likely to begin slowly building a following. As traffic increases, the chances of the blog appearing on search engines and being indexed grows. Therefore, one simple way of indexing a blog is to post well and post often.
There are, however, a number of ways to speed up the process of indexing. One way is to register with a highly ranked blog community or other site (a highly ranked site is one that appears, relative to a lower ranked site, closer to the top listing on the first page of a given search). By registering with such a blog community, you are in effect registering to become indexed by a search engine. Other sites that fulfill the same purpose include websites that value how much your blog is worth, websites that offer statistics on the traffic your blog is receiving, and websites that collect your posts (your blog's feed) and list them along with other posts (these sites are called aggregators).
A very quick way to become indexed is to have one's blog linked by a site with high authority (having high authority is similar to being highly ranked). An established blog or website provides the traffic necessary to draw attention to one's linked blog, in effect acting as a giant billboard in a busy city.
Finally, one can become indexed by doing what any business does to become noticed: manage the brand. For bloggers, this means getting the site name into as many different communities and networks as possible. Using social networking sites is very beneficial for blog success and helps to build relationships with readers. Starting a Facebook page, a twitter account, signing up on Ehow, joining groups and forums about your blog content or utilizing other social media means are all strong methods for becoming recognized and getting one's brand into the open.
