The answer to that question is no. MySpace has been online since February 22, 1996 and Facebook has been online since March 29, 1997 a little over a year later than MySpace. There has been talk that Facebook will eventually replace MySpace. The numbers associated with both sites indicate otherwise. Both sites have a Google page rank of 9 out of 10 which is an indication of the level of activity each is receiving. Both sites have similar purposes and many individuals, businesses and organizations use both. It makes sense. Both have wide popularity and are easily accessed by anyone. Some would have you believe they are the only sites that offer their kind of networking and connection to others. This fact is just not true.
The way that technology is developing today in the world there will likely be other sites developed to compete with the options both of these have. One thing is for sure is that there will always be new sites coming into the picture and these sites along with others will have to expand and improve their designs and options to both keep their current users and gain new ones. This fact is something that is not likely to change for the foreseeable future. The Google page rank enjoyed by both these sites is the same which gives some indication that they are comparable both in quality, information and opportunities to those who use them.
There are other measures that indicate Facebook has not put and will not put an end to MySpace. There is a site which measures and ranks the traffic of sites and links to them. It even provides demographics/popularity of users by age group. The age group that is overrepresented on MySpace is 18-34 and the age group of 45-65+ are underrepresented. Relative to Facebook the same age group (18-34) is overrepresented. Those individuals 35 and over are underrepresented. These statistics show a commonality between those who use the sites and those who do not. The alexa traffic rank for Facebook is 2 overall and 3 in the United States. The traffic rank for MySpace is 11 overall and 5 within the United States. This is a good indication they are both in competition but with numbers like the ones above Facebook will not be putting an end to MySpace. Through a site called alexa.com which tracks traffic and links Facebook has 389,455 sites that link to it. MySpace has a total of 362,076 sites that link to it. Approval ratings for both Facebook and MySpace on alexa are the same at 4 stars.
This is another indication that
