Guide to the Dance command in Final Fantasy VI

Though Moogles are known for being festive in later games, none are quite so dramatically effective as Mog from Final Fantasy VI. Utilizing his crazy Dance moves to great effect, Mog is capable of drawing out the elements of the world and doing awesome - if unpredictable - amounts of damage.

Dance is similar to Gau's Rage command in that the player loses control of Mog for the rest of the fight, or at least as long as he's conscious. He'll execute whatever commands are associated with a particular Dance and won't let up until he or the enemy is dead. This is both a blessing and a curse, as you'll have access to some excellent moves but thereafter be incapable of using Mog for normal attacks, magic or items. Use Dance with caution, and don't use the wrong Dance or you might wind up healing your enemies by accident.

Aside from those problems? Dance is great. Each one has four different attacks or support moves that will skew the battle in your favor, and they remain consistently good throughout the game. They're also fairly easy to get, which is a departure from trickier characters like Strago and his Lore command. All Mog needs to do is fight once in a given environment without Dancing and he'll learn that area's Dance. He can then use it forevermore. The only Dance that may prove annoying to get is the Water Harmony, and even that isn't too bad in the GBA remake.

Wind Rhapsody: Probably the easiest to get. Just fight on a flat, green field or in an airship scrap. Wind Rhapsody hits one or all enemies, or heals the entire party with the awesome Sun Bath move. Great for sustained battles where you know you'll need healing.

Desert Lullaby: Gotten in any desert. Desert Lullaby is an all-attack based set that shares Wind Slash with Wind Rhapsody.

Forest Nocturne: Found in any forest of the game. Forest Suite is more status based, though it can do nice damage and heal your team.

Earth Blues: Found on mountains. Earth Blues includes the great Sun Bath and also damages single enemies quite effectively.

Love Serenade: A good single enemy Dance found in town battles. Snare can prove especially troublesome as it automatically kills one enemy.

Twilight Requiem: The first Dance you'll receive so long as Mog gets to fight in the game's first split battle. Good against single enemies, similar to Love Serenade.

Water Harmony: An excellent Dance found in watery terrain, generally the World of Balance's Lethe River or Serpent Trench. Does water damage to all enemies with El Nino or single enemy damage with its other attacks.

Snowman Rondo: A winter Dance found in winter climates (so Narshe, essentially). Good at damaging multiple enemies with snow attacks.
