Valentine's Day is known as the day of love. If you want to try to make your lesson plan more interesting for this holiday, you should think about integrating Valentine's Day craft ideas for your students. The following article will help you create a lesson plan that includes a few craft ideas for Valentine's Day, but these ideas can be tailored to most of the holidays we encounter.
Valentine's Day Cards
Although making cards for Valentine's Day is often an overused activity in many primary schools, you can make this process more interesting by creating cards that will awe and excite. For example, pop up Valentine's Day cards are a great idea; they look creative and they are probably different from the types of Valentine's Day cards that many people see or receive.
To make pop up cards, you will need to practice the basics on scrap pieces of construction paper. First, fold the paper in half. Make the crease as straight and as flat as possible. Then, using scissors and having the crease facing you, make one cut about one or two inches long. Then, make another cut, the same length, one or two inches from the first cut that you made. Open up the paper and push the "cut" portion towards you (or towards the edges of the paper). It should look like a small table. Now, you can glue cut out pieces of paper that represent your characters, backgrounds, setting, etc.
Valentine's Day Chocolates
For this activity, you will need your students to purchase a small box of chocolates. These are relatively inexpensive and they will make great gifts once your students are finished working with the boxes.
Your students will decorate the boxes using various arts and crafts materials, from scrap paper to stickers to glitter and cut out shapes. You can usually find these items at arts and crafts stores and even at dollar or discount stores.
Encourage your students to be as creative as possible. For example, if they want to make their presentation of the box look interesting and fun, they can make letters that stand up. In other words, they will cut out letters and make them big enough so that there is extra paper for them to fold over. Apply glue to the folded up bottom, and attach the letters to the outside of the box, on top of the lid. The letters can spell out "I love you" or "For you."
As you can see, creating Valentine's Day-inspired gifts with your students can be fun and inspiring.
