Facebook Application Geo Challenge

Facebook is known for having lots of applications. Among them are smiles, friend requests, games, causes, just to name a few. Many of Facebook's applications are just for fun, some help you nurture friendships, and several of them challenge your intelligence. Geo Challenge is a Facebook application that teaches you world geography while you sit back and play a game.

When you go to the Geo Challenge application, you are prompted by a welcoming screen. Through this screen, you can become a fan, invite friends to play, sign up for a newsletter, and even go play other games. In the center of the screen is a play button and a mobile version. At the top of the screen is a language selector so you can play the game in your native dialect. Beneath the play screen is a list of your friends who are playing Geo Challenge, and a comparison of each person's ranking.

When you click on the play prompt, you will be taken to a screen with three more prompts, one for a World Tour, one for a European Tour, and one for a USA Tour. You must begin on the World Tour, as the other two tours are locked, and you will need to unlock them in order to play. There are four different parts to the World Tour game.

By clicking the World Tour prompt, you will be taken to a screen that tells you how to play the first part of the game, a challenge of matching flags with the correct country. Toward the bottom of the screen, there is a check box that you can click to continue moving to the start of the game. Standing tall on the right of the screen is a tour guide who gives you instructions via word bubbles and sound. After clicking on the check box once, you will be shown a demonstration of how this part of the game is played.

Click on the check box again to begin the game, and start matching flags to countries to earn your points. The faster you go, the better, as you are timed and will get more flags to match. When you are finished, the tour guide will reappear to give you your score for that section of the game and tell you how many you missed. Click the check box to move on to part two of the game.

Again you will be given instructions and a demonstration, this time to pinpoint countries all over the world. You will see a list of four countries off to the side. Your job is to select the correct one that matches the highlighted country on the map. Again you will want to work quickly and with accuracy to accrue more points.

The third section of the game quizzes your knowledge of cities within countries and the fourth part of the game tests your ability to match landmark pictures with their correct locations on the map. Both of these sections are played the same way the first two segments of the game are played. When you have finished all four aspects of the game, you will get your final score. Scores noticeably increase with practice, and the game varies each time you play it.

Geo Challenge is a combination of memory, geography, and culture all mixed into one game. It is a solo application, but can be played among groups of friends. If you enjoy playing games that increase your knowledge, you will undoubtedly enjoy playing Geo Challenge on Facebook. In fact, you might even become a little bit hooked on it, like that could ever happen in the world of social networking.
