Health clubs: Things that are annoying

Annoying gym issues? Where do I start?

1. Vain people at the gym

I'll start with the vain men. Ok, I know you want to be the next Arnold Schwarzenegger, but don't advertise it. While I like the idea of having a healthy diet, I'm no diet or fitness freak, so I don't know how to count all those calories or what supplements to take or how many sit-ups I need to do to have perfect abs. If you are concerned with all of that, great. Don't belittle me for my less than perfect build and the fact I'm not slavishly devoted to a grueling exercise and diet routine like you are. Next I'm going to mention the vain women. What's the deal with all the makeup? I know you want to look attractive but the gym is the wrong place for that. If you're not here to work up a sweat, why bother coming at all?

2. Nudists trying to strike up a conversation

I'm not bothered by dudes in the gym locker room changing, but please avoid talking to me until AFTER your clothes are on, or at least wear a towel. I don't want to look your way and see the full monty. It's just plain inconsiderate. Also, please wait till I put MY clothes on before talking to me.

3. Flirting, ogling, and hooking up

Though I'm male, I'm embarrassed at my gender when some of them act in an ill mannered way. For example, the guys who ogle women to the point where it embarrasses them. I'll admit I've stolen a few glances myself but for goodness sakes, your brazen staring is outright offensive. Also, the guy who shamelessly hits on women even when he knows they are repulsed by his inflated ego. For some women, dressing in provocative attire at the gym is a way for them to get guys' attention, but it's the wrong kind of attention. I know as a male I get turned on by certain things so please don't flaunt your sexuality even though some men like it. And for both sexes, lovey-dovey behavior is irritating for those of us at the gym who use it to improve our health instead of a social club.

4. Not wiping down the machines

I'll admit I've had to work on this. Yet, it's true, everyone needs to be considerate when using the equipment. Let's put ourselves in the other person's position and think carefully about how we'd feel if people didn't extend us that courtesy.

5. Annoying staff

Some of this I referred to in the first example. Quite often there's at least one gym staff member who's pushy to the point of being obnoxious when it comes to his opinions about exercise routines, diets, etc. I came to the gym to feel better about
