Why the World Hates Math
Many kids all over the country are failing in math classes. Although there are different reasons which are unique to each individual, most of time the main cause is lack of interest for the subject and irregular study habits. Most kids do not like to learn math in the way it is taught, with each concept building on the other. Few other classes are organized this way, which makes math exceptionally challenging.
Most students resort to cramming as many facts about the topic right before a test, and they keep it in their heads just long enough to use it on the test. This leads to declining grades in countless schools and an increase in dropouts. The institution of proper study habits starts not in secondary schools, but in primary grade school. The dislike for math comes when pictures are replaced with numbers and movements of geometric shapes are replaced with operation symbols, such as plus and minus symbols. When math becomes more abstract and the practicality of it becomes almost invisible, turning only up only in a few word problems, then math loses its interest and students begin despising it.
The few that conceive an interest in mathematics usually begin to lose interest in other things, such as sports and recreation. These people, known as math geeks, are very few and are usually pushed out of social circles where other kids consider them strange or weird. They usually seek help from a teacher and are given all sorts of names from fellow peers because of their different personality. It is now become the norm to despise math and to isolate whoever defies there ideology. We wonder nowadays why kids have become so violent in their gangs and clubs, yet we overlook the fact that they have had practice in primary school, bullying those who are different from the majority.
The teachers, rather than trying to stop the overwhelming majority from continuing their clubs, try to consolidate the victims and alert their parents about the bullying. The parents end up pulling their kids out and sending them to private schools where they have a better environment to learn in. Today the problem persists to an extreme where the hatred towards mathematics is radiated in many places, yet it is broadcasted in a subtle way. Very few times the word math is actually used, yet it is understood in many cases as to what the overall message is. In our parents' time math was considered one of the best subjects and someone who enjoyed math was considered a role model for the other students to look up to. Now math geniuses are considered different from everybody else and are treated as lower in their caste system. It is a sad fate, yet this is what is now prevailing throughout the world.
