For those who don't want to have to deal with all of the worries and frustrations associated with planning and preparing a Thanksgiving dinner, the answer might be quite simple: opt to go on a mini Thanksgiving getaway vacation. There are a wealth of possible places where one can go for a Thanksgiving weekend vacation, but the key to getting a reservation, let alone an affordable deal, is to make these plans as far in advance as possible.

There are some great places that attract return visitors year after year. That means that anyone who wants to consider going to one of these places must start planning long in advance.

Here are some suggestions that may help a potential Thanksgiving vacationer know how to begin their search for the best deals on their Thanksgiving weekend getaway.

*Start by planning long in advance -

If you want to go someplace to which you will need to fly, it will be necessary to book those plane reservations long in advance. The sooner you are able to book those reservations, the better the air fare you will get. Travel to some places will naturally be more expensive, so take that into consideration when making plans.

*Look for package deals -

There are some wonderful Inns, Hotels and Bed and Breakfast places throughout the country, and they offer package deals for the Thanksgiving weekend. Some will include one day, others might include two or three days. In some instances, the total package cost will include some activities, Thanksgiving dinner and more. Some offer structured activities that guests can participate in.

*Consider the Caribbean -

If you want to travel to the tropics, but can't afford the high rates that are the norm over the Christmas holiday, consider doing so around Thanksgiving instead. Many of the resorts won't have raised their rates for the holiday season yet, and they may offer incentives and packages to get people to consider visiting at a non-peak time. Air fares will also be cheaper because you won't be mixed in with the rush of Christmas travelers.

Another advantage to opting to travel to the Caribbean or to a tropical place at Thanksgiving is because you can avoid some of the chaos of major airports that cause flight delays and long lines at the security check places.

*Avoid weekend flying -

Certain days are the most popular for travel over the Thanksgiving holiday. Those are the days on which air fares will be highest. The Wednesday before Thanksgiving and the following Sunday are horrible days on which to fly. Airlines are notorious for over booking their flights and having to ask people to voluntarily be bumped. If you opt to travel to a getaway destination that isn't one of the "typical" Thanksgiving destinations, you can avoid all or most of that chaos.
