Poetry: Ordinary humor

by Tom Mcmurray

Created on: November 04, 2009

Now I admit eclectic taste
in everything I do
from poetry I read and write
to picking out a shoe;
or oysters I saute just right
in garlic chili paste.
And my Korean kimchi,
has never gone to waste.

I often take a trip alone
and never leave my home
to find myself within a church
asleep inside its dome.
Or call a stranger on the phone
and after my hello
I ask them if they miss me still
its been so long ago.

I love to go to my old schools
then sit in my old chair
and ask the teacher where she's been
'cause I've been waiting there;
for forty years or more I've sat
bug have not moved ahead,
which makes you, teacher, far too old
to teach, in fact, you're dead.

A day or two I've spent in jail
for styles of life I choose
but life to me is making bail
it's not to win or lose.
Tomorrow I will write my book
on how to fish for flies
of course the book should sell quite well
it's filled with only lies
