Tips for decorating an altar for Mabon

Decorating Your Altar for Mabon Festivals

Theses are just some ideas you can use for decorating your altar. You are expected to adjust and add your own creativity to personalize your altar. There is no set way of doing things, if it feels right to you than it is right. The idea for decorating your altar is to have fun and to honor the god and goddess on the sabbats. Mabon is the last sabat of the year, it is named for the Welsh god who is called the great son.

The winter findings spans from the Equinox September 23, until winter night on October 15, which is the Norse New Year. The caledonii recognizes this time as the festival for the lord of mysteries. Your alter is a great place for fruits, such as squash, apples, pomegranates, pumpkins ETC. Mabon festival is represented by the colors, brown, orange, gold and red all are associated with the fall leaves. You can also add the leaves to your decorations by paraffin them and either put them on paper or in jars, which you can decorate yourself.

You might want to add a bowl of water since autumn is associated with water, emotions, and relationships. You can also use the same bowl of water for scrying on samhain. Also acorns, ears of corn, wheat stalks, pine cones and leaves are also a nice touch for decorating your altar. Doll size scarecrows, and dried herbs, potpourri scents of the season apple incense is also good to use, you can also make an autumn blend with combining benzin, myrrh and sage together or use frankincense or sandal wood. I also would use candles in the fall colors and place them on my altar so I can ring in the season and celebrate the bounty of the harvest. I would also get river and stream stones they are energized for a variety of magical purposes.

This has nothing to do with decorating your altar but here is some of the foods you would or could prepare for your feast. There could be corn and corn bread, roasted butternut squash, venison pot roast, also cranberry pumpkin bread. You will do some prayers and rituals around your alter and some of them are raise energy with a drum circle, grapevine magic, hearth and home ritual, and apple magic, that is a few of them. You can also choose to collect food for the local food bank, so everyone can enjoy the benefits of the harvest, also since it is the time to celebrate wine making, see about taking a wine tour at one of your locally wineries or make your own.
