Describing an Educated Person
There are many ways to describe an educated person. The only true result is when a person can accomplish tasks easily seen as a skill set of an educated person. The means of reaching this educated skill sets vary. A challenge comes to the educational community to be open to evaluation of the programs that valid an educated person.
Common Definition
The most common definition of an educated person is a person who graduates from college or graduate school. This means the person successful passed enough requirements to meet the degree requirements. Sometimes a possible graduate received life experience credits.. Officially these individuals can claim to be an educated person. There are other means to become an educated person similar to the life credits received to earn the degree.. Some make a distinction in the type of college attended.
Varied Education Programs
Ivy League schools claim to produce the best-educated individuals. The question remains is whether that truly occurs. Can someone go to an Ivy League school and graduate without the ability to analysis, write and create. I am sure that most who graduates from the Ivy League graduate with this ability. Is it because of the programs offered at the schools or is it from the opportunities available to the recruitment pool the schools use. Some graduates probably graduate without the ability. A famous passage from the book and movie "Love Story" implies families build and donate buildings so the school admits and graduates less capable family members.
In sport's programs, rules needed to change to guarantee athletes had a chance for graduation while attending on a scholarship. Do the athletes who attend for the length of a scholarship become educated when they fail to graduate? Some athletes probably can demonstrate the ability to analyze, write and create.
The military has proven to train and educate a remarkable technological force. With the structure of military discipline of following command without question, someone might wonder how a soldier leave the military with the ability to analyze, write and create. Soldiers can stand with other educated people. This phenomenon appears in the success of G.I. Bill programs in college. A military trained person is prepared to enter college and succeed.
Resume vs. Life
Most people meet a person and do not know his or her resume. In general, if you meet people whom can problem solve detached from emotions, and relate and defend the choice from written, experience or gathered evidence is an educated person. This person may have gained the ability through formal education, interaction with educated people, military or vocational training, or self-education. The transfer of skill illustrates an education person not the resume that a person does not produce with each interaction.
An educated person is a person who can use information for the environment in which he lives. Can he converse with most people and problem solve in most everyday and professional situations? If the answer is yes, the person is educated.
