A Scary Halloween Night

It was Halloween night and Mandi Smith was home alone. Tim, her husband had to work. After Mandi handed the trick or treaters their candy, she saw a strange van parked in front of her house. Mandi shut the door and continued to peek out the window. She knew people were in the van because the lights were on. Panic started to overwhelm her as she continued to stare out the window. Who is that? Mandi asked herself. Maybe I should call the police if they don't leave soon.

An hour later, Mandi looked out the window and saw the van. She decided to call Detective Mallory. Detective Mallory, this is Mandi Smith. There is a strange van parked in front of my house. Tim isn't home right now, and I'm scared.

I'll be over right away.

Thanks.

Within a few minutes, Detective Mallory arrived. I'm so glad you came. I'm nervous when Tim isn't here at night.

I understand. Have you seen this van in the neighborhood at all?

No.

I'll call for back-up, and then we'll check this out.

Shortly, another unmarked car arrived. When the other Detective entered the house, Detective Mallory said, Mandi, this is Detective Jackson. We're going to check out the van.

Thanks.

Detective Mallory and Detective Jackson approached the van. Mandi peeked out the window and watched them. Within a few minutes, she saw the Detectives approaching the house.

When she opened the door to let them inside, Detective Mallory said, There were two women in the van. One woman said she lived down the street from you.

Maybe she does, but I haven't seen the van in the neighborhood.

I'm not sure I believe her, Detective Mallory replied.

What do you believe? Mandi asked.

We have had reports of two men, dressed up as women, lurking in this area. We have been watching this neighborhood and the surrounding areas. They pretended to be sweet old ladies, so they could enter a house. Then, they would rob the people. However, I'm not positive these two women fit the description of the other women, so they could be harmless.

What are you going to do about these two people? Mandi asked.

We're going to park our cars around the corner and sneak back here. Is there a back way to your house?

Yes. I'll show you.

After Detective Mallory and Detective Jackson moved their cars, they entered the back door and watched the van. Within a few minutes, they saw the two women climb out of the van and approach Mandi's house. Mandi, let them come inside. We'll be right here watching them, so if they start to harm you,
