Bulletin board ideas: How automobiles are made

The bulletin board is undoubtedly one of the most underused educational tools in the classroom. Many teachers set it aside for rainy days; they choose to use the bulletin board to display a clutter of information, rules, and guidelines that the students necessarily try to ignore, or at least only occasionally interact with. A good bulletin board is one that teaches; in this case, the following article will help primary school teachers create a bulletin board that teaches how automobiles are made.

To create this bulletin board, and others, you will need to designate distinct sections of the board for different types of information. In this case, you may want to create a timeline, a "factory walkthrough" section, as well as including pictures.

Timeline

The timeline can either be simple or elaborate. With younger students, it is always better to go for the "keep it simple, silly" method. If you cannot understand it yourself, don't expect your students to understand it either. So, when making a timeline, you will need to designate the physical timeline. You can either use a long length of string or cut out piece of construction paper, etc. Then, type the information that is relevant to a timeline, usually the history of the event, object, place, or person being represented. Finally, print out the information, cut them into manageable sizes, and use thumbtacks to attach them to the board (and on the timeline) at their appropriate places.

Factory Walkthrough

In this section, you will need to represent the way automobiles are made. It is always a good idea to represent the way they used to be made, and the way that they are made now. You can do this using pictures with captions, or using block-style paragraphs, or both. You will also need to describe each step of the process. It may also be a good idea to designate each step with a big, block-style number. This way, your students will be able to easily see the process itself.

Pictures

When it comes to teaching young children, pictures always help your efforts. However, do not just simply present the pictures themselves. Make sure that they are captioned, and that, when you present the bulletin board to your students, they understand why the pictures were chosen.

When you have finished creating the inside of the bulletin board, make sure to add a title and a pleasing, yet not so distracting, border. Then, go ahead and teach your kids about how automobiles are made!
