Magic the Gathering card analysis: Masked Admirers

"Masked Admirers" is a 3/2 green elf shaman printed as a rare for the Magic the Gathering expansion set known as "Lorwyn." This is one of the cards printed in Lorwyn that encourage players to build around a theme of creatures. In this case, one could say that Masked Admirers does encourage players to build around elves. You can also build this around shaman creatures if you want.

The converted mana cost for Masked Admirers is four. You will need two green mana and two colorless mana to bring Masked Admirers from your hand and onto the battlefield. For what Masked Admirers can do, the converted mana cost seems to be pretty worth it. Keep in mind that green has the best mana acceleration out of all of the five colors. Elves are mostly responsible for green having the best mana acceleration.

What does Masked Admirers do in the first place?

Whenever Masked Admirers comes onto the battlefield, you get to draw a card. Being able to draw a card is always good. You always want to have a card advantage in the game. That way, you have more options to exercise when the time arrives. However, this is neither the only nor the main ability of Masked Admirers.

The main ability lets you pay to green mana whenever you cast a creature spell. Do this only if Masked Admirers is in your graveyard. Should this be the case, you get to bring Masked Admirers from the graveyard to your hand. In this respect, you have means to bring Masked Admirers back unless an opponent manages to play a spell that Exiles it from the game.

In an elf themed deck, you should be able to bring back Masked Admirers. Remember, elves have great mana acceleration. Many elf cards have a very low mana cost which is a good thing. You only have to spend a little bit of green mana to play an elf spell. Then, you can pay two green mana to bring Masked Admirers back to your hand. It should be really easy if you have "Mana Reflection."

Masked Admirers is good because you can bring it back onto the battlefield a few times. It overrides the ruling "cannot be regenerated." The thing is that Masked Admirers is not being regenerated. You are simply bringing Masked Admirers from the graveyard to your hand.

Overall, it is an all right card simply because you can draw a card and bring it back to your hand should it get sent to the graveyard. To get the most out of this, you want to play a creature deck let alone one with elves. Doing so increases the mana acceleration. That allows you to play creatures faster. In turn, you get to bring Masked Admirers back to your hand should it get sent to the graveyard.
