"Marsh Flitter" is a 1/1 black faerie rogue printed as an uncommon for the Magic the Gathering expansion set known as "Lorwyn." This is one of the cards printed in the Lorwyn block that encourage players to build around a tribe of creatures. In respect to the Marsh Flitter, players are encouraged to build around either faeries or rogues. However, one could use Marsh Flitter in a deck full of goblins and rogues. So far, this can be used with quite a number of goblin cards.
The converted mana for Marsh Flitter is four. You will need one black mana and three colorless mana to bring Marsh Flitter from your hand and onto the battlefield. For what Marsh Flitter can do, it is debatable on the mana cost. However, black does have good mana acceleration for a "price." It has three interesting abilities for the most part.
What are the abilities of the Marsh Flitter?
The first ability of the Marsh Flitter is that it has Flying. If you attack with the Marsh Flitter and your opponents have no creatures with Flying or Reach, s/he is taking one point of combat damage.
The second ability allows you to generate two 1/1 black goblin rogue tokens as soon as Marsh Flitter enters the battlefield. In a sense, you got two chump blockers to use against opponents with strong creatures.
The third ability allows you to sacrifice a goblin to give the Marsh Flitter +2/+2 until the end of the turn. In this respect, the Marsh Flitter becomes 3/3. However, you can definitely get a lot out of this ability. One way would be combining this with "Weirding Shaman." You pay one black mana and three colorless mana to use Weirding Shaman's ability to sacrifice a goblin to creature two 1/1 black goblin rogue tokens.
With this combination, you can create an army of black goblin rogues. You can sacrifice a portion to boost the power and toughness of the Marsh Flitter. Then, you can sacrifice the other goblin rogue tokens to creature even more.
By using this ability of making the Marsh Flitter into a 3/3 creature, players should also have "Stinkdrinker Bandit." It gives all rogues +3/+2 whenever they attack and are not blocked. In this respect, Marsh Flitter could become a 6/5 creature with Flying until the end of the turn.
Overall, Marsh Flitter is useful with the right combination of cards on the battlefield. To get the most out of this card, you would want to make a deck that produces many goblin tokens. As long as you can constantly produce goblin tokens, you can use them to boost up the Marsh Flitter.
