"Merrow Reejerey" is a 2/2 blue merfolk soldier printed as a rare for the Magic the Gathering expansion set known as "Lorwyn." This is one of the many cards printed in the Lorwyn block that encourage players to build around a tribe of creatures. With respect to Merrow Reejerey, one is encouraged to build around the theme of the merfolk. In a pure blue control deck, Merror Reejerey is a great card to have because it can help out other merfolk creatures and vice versa.

The converted mana cost for Merrow Reejerey is three. You will need one blue mana and two colorless mana to play Merrow Reejerey onto the battlefield. For what Merrow Reejerey can do, the converted mana cost is well worth it. Make sure to build a merfolk themed deck in order to get the most out of the Merrow Reejerey.

What does Merrow Reejerey do in the first place?

When Merrow Reejerey enters the battlefield and remains there, your other merfolk creatures get +1/+1. In this respect, Merrow Reejerey boosts your merfolk creatures. However, it is not the main ability of the Merrow Reejerey.

The main ability allows you to tap or untap a target permanent whenever you play a merfolk spell. If you have plenty of merfolk creatures to play, you can use Merrow Reejerey to control the flow of the game. If you have two or three of those cards on the battlefield, you only need to play one merfolk spell to tap or untap three permanents. This can be a cheap merfolk spell that can be cast.

In an extended format, you can combine Merrow Reejerey with "Lullmage Mentor." Lullmage Mentor is a blue merfolk wizard from "Zendikar." This is perhaps one of the best merfolk creatures ever. You can use Merrow Reejerey and Lullmage Mentor in an extended deck provided you have plenty of counter spells. Playing a counter spell or using an ability that counters a spell allows you to put a 1/1 blue merfolk token on the battlefield when Lullmage Mentor is on the battlefield. You tap seven untapped merfolk to counter a target spell. Doing so lets you put another 1/1 blue merfolk token on the battlefield.

In this respect, Merrow Reejerey and Lullmage Mentor have great synergy.

Merrow Reejerey can also be combined with the legendary merfolk creature known as "Empress Galina." You pay two blue mana and tap Empress Galina to gain control of a target legendary permanent. With Merrow Reejerey, you can play a merfolk spell and untap Empress Galina, pay the two blue mana, tap Empress Galina, and repeat the process.

You can also combine this with "Fallowsage." Whenever Fallowsage becomes tapped, you may draw a card. You can use Merrow Reejerey's ability to tap Fallowsage to draw a card whenever you play a merfolk spell. You can also combine this with "Grimoire Thief" to mess up an opponent's library. It can be combined with "Hallowsage" to gradually decimate an opponent's hand.

Overall, Merrow Reejerey is a great card to have if you are playing with merfolk for the most part. In a blue control deck, you can get much play out Merrow Reejerey. If you combine Merrow Reejerey with other merfolk cards, you can really mess up an opponent.
