Medical doctors recommend that everyone, regardless of age or health status, take a daily multi-vitamin supplement. All individuals likely do not get enough of certain nutrients through their diets, and as we age, our bodies become less able to absorb vitamins from food.

While taking a vitamin may sound like a simple daily task, the process of selecting the correct supplement is not so easy. Hundreds of different brands and varieties are available, including those that are not natural or food-based, and are therefore not even utilized by the body. These supplements lead to nothing more than expensive urine, as the body does not have the ability to effectively absorb synthetic vitamins.

So what is then the most effective and beneficial supplement everyone should take? If you choose just one, make it cod liver oil. The results of taking a daily cod liver oil supplement are overwhelmingly positive. Natural News even names it the number one super food because of its amazing ability to improve a great number of ailments, and its dense nutritional content.

Vitamin D:

The natural presence of vitamin D is one of the factors that differentiates cod liver oil from other fish oil supplements. Most individuals who consume the standard American diet are deficient in vitamin D. This worsens in the winter months when we do get enough natural sunshine exposure.

The website Omega 3 For Your Health emphasizes that a daily cod liver oil supplement is particularly beneficial from late fall to spring, as it is a natural source of the sunshine vitamin. Vitamin D regulates our calcium and phosphorus levels to help us maintain healthy bones. It is essential for the assimilation of calcium and magnesium in the body. Two symptoms of vitamin D deficiency include bone pain and muscle pain, which may be most noticeable with activities such as climbing stairs.

Vitamin A:

Vitamin A is another nutrient that is present in cod liver oil, but absent in other fish oils. It is an essential nutrient, meaning that our bodies cannot create it, and it must be obtained from food or supplements. This nutrient is perhaps best known for its contribution to good eyesight. In fact, vitamin A deficiency can lead to poor night vision, and blindness if left untreated. Vitamin A also assists in bone and tooth formation, as well as healthy nerve function.

Omega 3 Fatty Acids:

These nutrients are what makes cod liver oil such a true powerhouse. Cod liver oil contains two different beneficial omega 3 acids: EPA
