Writing tips to help articles flow smoothly

One of the worst things you can do when trying to write is make it too hard. Writers need to let their words flow, and over thinking them does way more harm than good. Articles and manuscripts end up dry and choppy when a writer analyzes his material too much. Consequently, the piece is difficult to read and often dismissed for something easier.

People on the internet choose to read articles that are clear and easy to understand. Why? Because they don't have the time to decipher what writers are trying to reveal. That's one of the reasons blogs have become so popular. Blogs are short easy snippets of information, often pointing toward more in depth information. They have a way of personally sharing educated opinions about subjects, and they usually give the reader a reason to agree or disagree with them.

More than that, blogs flow smoothly because the author of them usually writes as though he is speaking directly to you. He's not trying to pass an English essay writing course, and he's certainly not submitting a thesis that his over educated professor is going to grade without a curve. The author of a blog is sharing information with anyone who chooses to read it. Most bloggers do their research, linking to sources used throughout their posts. While the style of a blog may not be appropriate for an article, a lot can be learned from the way words flow in blogs. Bloggers encourage the reader to connect with what they are saying, hoping the reader might identify to the point of personal interaction with them. That's why they include the strategic use of a comments section in most blogs.

Just the facts, please! Nothing but the facts! Quite honestly, while you should substantiate your facts with research and accurate information, you should never diminish your capacity as a writer to only relay the facts about any subject. One of your gifts as a writer is to make your topics come alive, increasing their intensity with verbs, adjectives, and adverbs. Anyone can put a list together and share it with the world. You get to make an article out of that list, adding lots of detail to everything on it. You get to transform the everyday mundane details into a work of art that people will appreciate and learn from.

Making your articles flow is not very difficult at all. Simply write what you would say to someone face to face. Include all of your emotions, and don't forget to take note of your facial expressions. Then formalize your rough draft, adding detail as you edit. Review your work, reading it as an internet user and not its author. If you like what you see, you're ready to publish it, and you can bet people will be eager to read what you have written.
