After running websites since 2002 to showcase my home-based business opportunity and slowly transitioning to using blogs to promote my online and affiliate marketing activities - I have my conclusion as to which is the best internet portal to promote my work and that's using a blog.
Using a website has its pros and I do not wish to run it down and discourage you from using it but in the end point, if you are promoting your works that are:
- Static in nature (no regular updates needed) and you are just there to share general information or to showcase your brand
- Not planning to interact with your visitors on each of your works
- And you do not find it complicated to edit and add information to your website
- Also that you are good with the use and displaying of graphics
Then you will be very contented with the use of websites rather than a blog to display your works.
But if you are more of the adventurous and competitive type, you may like to explore the world of using a blog to promote your works!
Why is that so?
The Competitive Benefits Of A Blog
1. Blogs are usually picked up by search engines faster than a website because of the updates on a regular basis. And if your works are competitive in nature (many people share your interest and this is getting common nowadays), you will be seeing yourself trying to improve on your content and the style of writing. Also improving on your methods of promoting.
2. More interaction = Better Feedback. Interact with your visitors whenever there's new updates and content or works. Get an "instant" feel of how they perceive as you update and improve along the way. Show your appreciation to those who have provided their feedback with new updates on your blog. This builds credibility as well!
3. Indirectly know your competitors. Once you start to become popular, many bloggers or competitors would like to do a link back or do up a comment to your quality or popular post. In order to do so, they leave behind their personal websites. Whenever you feel that your promotion is going nowhere, learn from your competitors! Promotion is no longer stagnant!
The Technical Benefits Of Using A Blog
1. A Blog allows you to post your materials like written text, audio and video and have them up online within minutes, unlike static websites which can take hours to update (firing up your web page editor, coding and such) and cost a lot (if you need to engage a webmaster or programmer) especially if you are not familiar with building or editing web sites right from the start.
2. Download and set up your blog within minutes. Be ready with your content, post it up and get ready for the search engines to pick them up (even with a simple looking theme)
3. The cost is relatively cheaper to set up (e.g WordPress is free), to maintain (upgrade is done easily with one-click) and to enhance (most of the wordpress plugins with good functions come free).
Given such benefits of using a blog over a website, are you won over or become more confident in using it?
