Boxing preview: Miguel Cotto vs Manny Pacquiao

Created on: November 03, 2009

With the fight closing in, who will win when Manny Pacquiao faces Miguel Angel Cotto on Novemeber 14th?

This is one of the toughest fights in modern times to actually pick for a host of reasons, the questions surrounding the fight make it not only an exciting one for the fans but also intriguing, it'll be the first real fight at Welterweight for Pacman other than the fight with skeletal Oscar De La Hoya but it'll also be another hard fight for Cotto. In recent years these are two of the fighters that have fought the best on a regular basis trying to prove they are the best on the world and trying to force the world take note for their in ring actions, not the actions of their mouth. Unlike Floyd Mayweather who is happy to tell everyone that he is the greatest ever, these two have been quietly going about their job of beating opponents in the ring to get the public to take note of them.

Pacquiao has been spent the last few years fighting a veritable who's who including Marco Antonio Barrera, Erik Morales, Juan Manuel Marquez, Oscar De La Hoya and Ricky Hatton. He's fought from super featherweight to welterweight in the past 2 years winning often against bigger men as he's used his unbelievable speed of both hand and foot as well as power that seems to have carried up in the weights as well. Most notably his destruction of Hatton in his last fight. Though comments about him fighting faded fighters have emerged it's difficult to commend them with too much respect as he's been the one coming up in weight to face bigger fighters.

Miguel Cotto however has had a repeatedly tough line of fights including Antonio Margarito, Shane Mosley, Joshua Clottey and Carlos Quintana. He's come back from a hugely demoralising loss to Margarito to string 2 successive victory's since though his last fight did make it seem like perhaps he too was on the wane. Although he's been at the weight for almost 3 years, the feeling amongst some fight fans is that he's quite tight at the weight and the fact the match with Pacquiao is set at 145lbs could be difficult for Cotto to make.

So how could the fight go?
There seems to be several trains of thought about this fight. One of the biggest is that making 145lbs will destroy Cotto who move from light welterweight to welterweight due to weight problems, he's a muscular and bulky guy. If he does struggle with the weight it could be a very dangerous fight for him and it's very easy to see Pacman surviving the earlier rounds before destroying a tired
