When you organize your closet, you want to start from the left and work your way to the right. There is no right way or wrong way when organizing your closet; but there are tips to help organize your closet in a more functional and visually pleasing way.
For the sake of organization, all of the hangers in your closet should be the same color and face the same way. They should also be made from the same material: plastic, metal and so forth.
When you organize your closet separating all of your shirts into seasons is a good starting point. All long sleeve shirts should be the easiest to get to during fall, winter and spring. In late spring, summer and early fall any tank tops and shirt sleeve shirts should be handy. The appropriate clothing for the current season should be the easiest to reach when you walk into the closet. The shirts for the present season should be closer to the front of your closet, while all out of season clothing in your closet should be at the back. Any shirts or tops that can be used for both seasons, these are tank tops that can be work under a long sleeve shirt, or thin over-shirts.
To get the best out of when you organize your closet separate everything into colors. It takes a little extra time but you will always know where everything is without having to search.
Containers can be added to the top of your closet to hold smaller items like belts and hats. Belts can be hung up in the closet to keep them from bending or folding. You can purchase hanging drawers to add to your closet storage. They simply clip to the wire shelving and hang.
Shoe racks that sit at the bottom of your closet can be built or bought at most home improvement stores. Shoe racks keep your shoes together and also save them from becoming damaged by being thrown into a bin where they can get scratched up or even dented.
A simple way to organize your closet on a budget is to use any items that you have in your house already. Move that small dresser or bookshelf into your closet for a little extra storage. Even unused boxes can be decorated with any extra material laying around to hide the boxes and add a splash of color to your storage. The material can be fastened with multi-purpose glue or adhesive.
