"Jagged-Scar Archers" is an X/X green elf archer printed as an uncommon for the Magic the Gathering expansion set known as "Lorwyn." This is one of the cards printed in the Lorwyn block that encourage players to build a deck around a certain theme of creatures. In the case of Jagged-Scar Archers, players are encouraged to build around the theme of elf creatures. In an elf-themed deck, one could get much play with the Jagged-Scar Archers.
The converted mana cost for Jagged-Scar Archers is three. You will need two green mana and one colorless mana to bring Jagged-Scar Archers from your hand and onto the battlefield. For what Jagged-Scar Archers can do, the converted mana cost is well worth it.
What does Jagged-Scar Archers do in the first place?
To start things off, the power and toughness of Jagged-Scar Archers is equal to the number of elves on the battlefield under your control. In this respect, the Jagged-Scar Archers would be 1/1 if it is the only elf on the battlefield under your control. Should you have six elves, including Jagged-Scar Archers, on the battlefield, it would be a 6/6 creature. But, that is not the main ability.
The main ability lets you tap Jagged-Scar Archers to deal damage equal to its power to a target creature with Flying. Make sure it neither has Shroud nor Protection from Green.
It is already obvious on how you get the most out of the Jagged-Scar Archers. You need elf cards. So far, it is pretty easy since most elf cards are green. Green out of all the five colors has the best mana acceleration. Elves are usually responsible for green having the best mana acceleration. You should be able to play plenty of elf cards during your turn. In turn, it increases the power and toughness of Jagged-Scar Archers.
In this respect, you get to destroy your opponents' Flying creatures. With certain cards that have abilities that let you untap permanents let alone creatures, you can untap and tap Jagged-Scar Archers a few times. You can get rid of a bunch of Flying creatures.
Unfortunately, the ability is dependent on elves. Elves are not usually the strongest creatures. You would want cards let alone elf creatures that boost the power and toughness of your other elves. You can use "Elvish Promenade" and "Rhys the Redeemed" to make a bunch of elf tokens. In turn it increases the number of elves on the battlefield. That increases the power and toughness of Jagged-Scar Archers.
You can also use "Immaculate Magistrate." Tapping it lets you put X +1/+1 counters on a target creature where X is equal to the number of elves under your control. You can put that many +1/+1 counters on Jagged-Scar Archers.
Overall, Jagged-Scar Archers is a pretty interesting and impressive card if you are playing elves. Because of this, you should put this in an elf deck. This is due to having an impressive attacker and blocker. Also, this is a good way to get rid of an opponent's creatures with Flying.
