A heart shaped faced is wide through the forehead, but much narrower at the jaw line. If you'd like to make your face resemble a more oval shape, there are many ways to do so. The most common ways to achieve this are by making the right choices when it comes to your hairstyle, make up, neckline, accessories and eyebrow shape.
Hairstyle
A flattering hairstyle can significantly help to bring balance to a heart shaped face. The goal is to minimize volume through the top half of your head, but play it up on the bottom half. This means that bob style haircuts can work well, or consider trying a cut that has lots of layers from the mouth area down. When you blow dry your hair, try styling your ends outwards around the chin to increase width in this region. It is best to steer clear of a fringe, unless it is a sleek side swept style. Also be careful about cutting your hair short, because this may highlight the difference between your chin and forehead even more.
Makeup
You can influence the visual proportions of your facial appearance by contouring and highlighting with makeup. Try to avoid playing up your cheekbones, because they are already likely to be prominent. It is a good idea to apply a contouring powder to the apples, then a highlighting product to your chin and jaw line. This will help bring the eyes to rest on your smaller region. You can also bring the focus to this area by concentrating more on lip make up then eye makeup.
Neckline
When it comes to clothing choices, you want to look for wide, shallow necklines. These will assist in adding visual width to the bottom half of your face. Boat necks, turtlenecks and high round necks all tend to work well.
Accessories
Your accessories can also influence the appearance of your face, so make sure you also make wise choices in this department. For sunglasses or prescription frames look for styles that are large in size. This is because you want to disguise the size of your forehead. If you choose tiny frames, they are likely to highlight your expanse of forehead. Your best bet when it comes to head wear is a moderate sized hat. Ideally this will be one that features width at the bottom, but not at the top. For example, a straw hat that that curves to a broader shape around the bottom of the face, or a beret the sits snug on the head, but gathers in folds around the chin.
Eyebrow shape
You should aim to keep your eyebrows short in length, because you don't want the eye to travel outwards across your wide forehead region. Trim your eyebrow ends so that they stop in line with a diagonal line taken from your inner eye, rather than further across the temples. Also try to get a good arch in your brow shape.
The more elements you work into your look, the higher the chances of deceiving the eye into thinking you have an oval shaped face.
