How can we treat gays as equals? How about we quit singling people out based on sexual orientation and preference and start only thinking of them as regular humans like straight people. I think that's the best place to start.
Gay, straight, lesbian, or bi; we're all humans, no matter what. Though a lot of people treat them so differently, or shun them out of situations like they don't belong, or claim they're different. How does a person's sexual preference make them any less human?
When I look at a gay person, I see a person standing there. Hell, you don't even know someone's gay usually unless they say something about it or tell you. Which makes me laugh at how people tend to react to that. Homophobes have no problems chatting up a storm with guys who listen to the same music, share the same interests, or dress the same until they find out they're gay. Then the friendship they once had or could have had is gone. All because someone prefers sex from the same sex.
You also can't even tell the difference between a straight guy and a gay guy unless their highly open about it. I've seen lots of men and woman act either feminine or more masculine because it's how they were raised or where they came from. I know many men who come off as gay simply because they shower all the time, wear nice clothes, and actually care about what they look like. Yet they are 100% straight.
So you can't tell me you can spot a gay person from a mile away. It's just not true. It's impossible, like I said, unless their completely open about it and choose not to hide it. Which here's another issue that separates gays friend straights: why do they have to be open about it and tell the world? I mean, what are they supposed to do? Introduce themselves as "Hi my names... I'm such age.... Oh and I'm gay"? Is that what they're supposed to do? You don't see straight people doing that except changing the last part to "Oh and I love the opposite sex".
What's it matter if someones "in the closet". It's their personal, private business what they do and who they like. It's no one else's concern. Why do people care so much? Gay people aren't plagued. They don't have a disease, and it's not a sickness and it's sure not gonna wear off on other people. The only way for a gay person to "wear off" is if the person who claims it wore off, has been hiding some secret homoerotic thoughts. That's the only way it can so called "wear off".
Other than that, people are people. Every human being is the same, no matter how you look at it. Personally, I'm actually sick of how sexual orientation can separate humanity. That just proves were not as strong as we think we are. We're in no way as caring as we wish to seem. 'Cause if we were? We'd see past sexual preference and see only the human being standing there; laughing at the same jokes, feeling the same emotions, and living just like the rest of us.
That's how we can start viewing gays as equals. Stop separating them from everyone else to begin with. Treat them the very people they are.
