Poetry: Thanksgiving

MY THANKSGIVING FEAST

At this time of year

When we are inclined to give thanks,

When we reflect on our good fortune.

As well as the hardships we've suffered.

It is our duty to remember those who

Believe they have nothing to be thankful for.

There are those with no table to sit down to,

To have a special dinner with friends and family.

Those with illnesses with no cure in sight.

There are even those who have everything,

And fail to grasp the meaning of gratitude.

At this time of year,

When the holidays draw near

I am grateful for my blessings,

But I never forget my sorrows;

They complete the picture of my life.

Without sorrow, I would not recognize happiness.

Without rain, I would not appreciate the sun.

Without darkness, I would not be thankful for the light.

Without problems, my strength would never be tested.

Without failure, I would not know victory.

I am grateful for every day the Lord gives me

To experience all there is to see, feel, sense, hear,

Be it happiness, sadness, victory or pain.

Each is an ingredient in the pot of life makes up the stew,

That will be served as my Thanksgiving feast.
