Television has become a part of our everyday life; the characters of our favorite show feel like our best friends, after all, we have invested time into what is going in their lives.
A great story or character allows us to view ourselves in them, maybe even learn something from them; they inspire us to do try new things, be more adventurous or give us hope. At best they allow us to relive a time in our lives that we adored.
Ten years ago people used to set the VCR to record the shows as they were playing on TV, now you just need to go to any store or the internet to order the seasons of your favorite shows.
This year Nerd is the new black, smart and geeky has never looked better and you can tell buy getting the first and second season of The Big Bang Theory, here four scientists and engineers befriend the hot actress across the hall from where they live and the actions/reaction begins. This show is currently on its third season.
If you are into more classic shows that really brought the geek onto the screen and made it cool, look for Star Trek, Doctor Who, Battlestar Galactica and the original miniseries V.
Doctors have become regular characters on TV and some of them have gone from residents to retirement in the series run. ER had its last season last year and the DVD is currently available. Meredith Gray has become the poster child for damaged doctor's children and we have seen her go from depressed and confused to happy and married to McDreamy. The five seasons of this show are currently on DVD, the six season is in TV every Thursday.
Comedy used to be everywhere, everyday now it seems that people are looking for old classics for a laugh. I Love Lucy, Roseanne, Seinfeld, The Andy Griffith Show are all available on DVD, as well as more recent shows like Friends, Sex and the City and Cheers. If you are looking for shows that are still on the air and are just trying to catch up go and get, The Office, How I Met Your Mother and the longest running show The Simpsons.
If you are one of those people who loves getting invested in a mystery and have not seen the show LOST, go ahead and get seasons 1-4, pre-order the 5th season and get ready for the 6th and final season premiering early 2010.
