The most underrated coach in men's college basketball

Guys like Roy Williams, Coach K, Bill Self, or John Calipari tend to get all the publicity, but there are a lot of great coaches in college basketball. There are scores of coaches that you might not hear too much about, but they consistently produce winners wherever they go or whatever conference they coach in. Who are some of these underrated coaches?

One is Brad Stevens of Butler. He has helped turn the Bulldogs into perhaps the best mid-major team in the NCAA, and he has done it without getting the high level recruits that other "mid-majors" like Memphis and Gonzaga get on a routine basis. His teams are just very well prepared, and they are not going to beat themselves. In his two seasons at the Butler head coach, he has a 56-10 record, and has reached the post-season in both of his seasons. Butler looks better than ever this year too, as they begin the season ranked in the top 15. Look for Stevens' reputation continue to grow, especially with his age (he is in his low 30s), as bigger schools will attempt to lure him away from Butler.

Tubby Smith is a big name that people know about, but he is still a bit underrated because of the way he was run out of Kentucky. After leading them to one title, he was never able to duplicate that success, and the Wildcat fan base became disillusioned with him. He bolted for Minnesota, where has thrived. His teams have improved both seasons he has been at the helm, and he has brought in recruiting classes that Minnesota is not used to getting. In his third season he has one of the deepest teams in the Big Ten, as he looks poised to get the Gophers to the NCAA Tournament for the second straight season.

John Beilein at Michigan is a guy that is starting to get more recognition, but maybe still not as much as he deserves. He is a guy that simply does more with less. He is one of the smartest coaches in the country, and always seems to be able to maximize his talent for his schemes. After a few years of success at West Virginia, he has the ball moving at Michigan, as they look ready to take the next step and finish in the top half of the Big Ten this season. Beilein's teams will be very exciting to watch, especially as he is able to get a full roster of his players for the Wolverines.

These are just a few of the underrated coaches in America. With so many schools and so many great teams in small conferences, they are a lot of great coaches that happen to fly under the radar.
