How to hang Christmas wreaths on windows

The humble Christmas wreath can do more for your holiday decorating than just hang on a door. The welcoming circle of greenery can be placed anywhere you would like a piece of Christmas cheer. Windows are the ideal spot for Christmas wreaths, as they can be enjoyed from inside and outside the house.

Large wreaths can be very effective but you need to make sure they are securely fixed to strong support. Add long ribbons from the top of your wreaths, and hang them from the curtain rod or other firm support. To hang wreaths without these supports, use sticky back hooks, the kind that you can peel off by pulling a tab when you have finished with them. Affix these to the window panes to hang your wreaths, and easily remove them after the holidays.

If you have panes in your windows, try hanging a small wreath in each pane. You can make each one different or make them all the same. The effect will be charming. For larger windows with no panes, try hanging small wreaths on lengths of green or gold ribbon and suspending them from the top of the window.

Green holly and ivy wreaths look wonderful, of course, but think outside the Christmas box with the wreaths you put in your windows. Because they will be hanging inside the house, and not outside on the door in all weathers, you can use more delicate materials in your wreaths.

To make your own large wreaths, bend a wire coathanger into a circular shape, leaving the hook on top to hang your finished wreath. To make a light window wreath, cover the wire hoop with soft gauzy fabric and cover it with soft fabric leaves and flowers. You can hang beads and crystals from the wreath and it will look beautiful hung in a window.

The wealth of gorgeous Christmas ribbons available is irresistible when it comes to decorating your windows with wreaths. Tie a big bow at the hook, and wrap beautiful ribbons round your hoops, letting let the ends hang free. You can also use Christmas themed fabric to wrap your hoops, adding felt or fabric tree decorations. Since these wreaths will be hanging inside the house, you can let your imagination run riot.

To make a sparkling wreath, cover the wire hoop with fat tinsel, and add a Christmas tree star to the hook. Add lengths of silver ribbon with Christmas bells tied at the ends of the ribbon. Hang this in a window where it can catch a breeze and the bells will add a festive sound to the holidays.

You can make wreaths for each window in your house to echo the decor of the room. Wreaths in children's rooms should have small Christmas toys and tiny crackers attached, while a kitchen wreath can have tiny utensils, such as a garlic grater. Hanging wreaths in windows adds to the Christmas cheer and gives you another space for holiday decorating!
