Guide to Ayla's techs in Chrono Trigger

You'd figure a cave man would be straightforward when it comes to combat in an RPG, and at least in Ayla you'd be right. Ayla is all brawn and speed, making her a potent fighter - and, quite frankly, the best character to have on your team if you're fighting something with low physical defenses.

Ayla is unique in the game in that she has no magic whatsoever. True, Robo doesn't have any either, but his elemental lasers inflict shadow damage. The same can't be said of Ayla, who typifies a non-elemental being in every way. This is hardly to her detriment, however, as Ayla has a bunch of physical attacks that deal a ton of damage to most enemies and will demolish anything, especially when combined with elements in combo attacks. Ayla's raw strength is tough to deny.

This makes placing Ayla on a team really easy. She's a fighter. She shouldn't be slinging items unless necessary, and since she has no magic there's no need to worry about support. The only other role she should probably fill is that of a thief, since Ayla can charm enemies and steal their items - which, with some bosses, yields lucrative rewards. Consider keeping Ayla on your team permanently whenever entering a new area or facing off against a new boss.

Kiss: The only healing move Ayla has, Kiss restores HP and status to a single ally. Useful in a pinch, but Ayla's probably better off attacking.

Roundillo Kick: A fairly standard attack that hits oene enemy for better damage than Ayla's standard attack. This becomes obsolete later on when Ayla gets improved fists.

Cat Attack: A strong mauling attack against one enemy. This alone renders Roundillo Kick useless as it does a lot more damage.

Boulder Attack: Another strong, single enemy attack that hits said enemy rather hard. Unfortunately Boulder Attack doesn't work against all enemies - anything that flies is immune - so don't expect it to completely replace Cat Attack.

Charm: Has the chance to steal an item from an enemy. Very useful, and should be used against every boss you encounter just in case.

Tail Spin: Does physical damage to an area surrounding Ayla. Great for crowd control; if Ayla is far from enemies, however, this is completely useless.

Dino Tail: Virtually identical to Frog's Frog Squash, Dino Tail hits every enemy on the screen. It does more damage if Ayla has less HP, so don't use it at the beginning of fights (unless she's already weak, that is).

Triple Kick: The best single enemy move Ayla gets, Triple Kick hits a single enemy three times in a row. Given how strong Ayla is, that's a lot of damage.
