Magic the Gathering card analysis: Incandescent Soulstoke

"Incandescent Soulstoke" is a 2/2 red elemental shaman printed as a rare for the Magic the Gathering expansion set known as "Lorwyn." This is one of the many cards printed in Lorwyn that encourage the players to build around a certain theme of creatures. In respect to Incandescent Soulstoke, players are encouraged to build around elemental creatures. In an elemental themed deck, you can get plenty out of the Incandescent Soulstoke.

The converted mana cost for Incandescent Soulstoke is three. You will need one red mana and two colorless mana to bring Incandescent Soulstoke from your hand and onto the battlefield. For what Incandescent Soulstoke can do, the converted mana cost is well worth it.

What does Incandescent Soulstoke do in the first place?

When Incandescent Soulstoke is on the battlefield, all of your other elemental creatures get +1/+1. In short, Incandescent Soulstoke boosts up your other elemental creatures. In a multicolored elemental deck, you can use "Hoofprints of the Stag" and "Eyes of the Wisent." The elemental tokens they produce would get a good boost. 5/5 tokens are usually better than 4/4 tokens. However, this is not the main ability of the Incandescent Soulstoke.

The main ability lets you pay one red mana and one colorless mana. Doing so lets you tap Incandescent Soulstoke. That allows you to play an elemental creature from your hand and onto the battlefield. Until the end of the turn, it has Haste. Haste means that it can attack immediately after it enters the battlefield. Haste creatures are unaffected by summoning sickness. At the end, you sacrifice that creature. In this respect, you can use this ability to play aggressively with elemental creatures.

However, you can combine this with one interesting card. This allows you to make good use out of Incandescent Soulstoke. Make sure that you are playing a five-color elemental deck.

If you are, you can combine this with "Horde of Notions." It is a legendary five-color elemental creature. Its main ability allows you to pay one mana of each color to play an elemental card from your graveyard. You can play Incandescent Soulstoke to play elementals from your hand. You sacrifice them at the end of your turn. You use Horde of Notions to bring them back.

Also, use something like "Volrath's Stronghold" or "Mortuary" to bring cards back to the top of your library if you want. With a combination of such cards, the Incandescent Soulstoke becomes a highly useful card for the most part.

Overall, Incandescent Soulstoke is a great card to have if you are playing with elementals. When its main ability is combined with the main ability of a few certain cards, Incandescent Soulstoke is invaluable.
