Recipes: Quiche

by Mary Hale

Created on: November 02, 2009

Quiche is an easily assembled deliciously filling meal. In reality it is basically not much different than an omelet made into a pie. It is also a very adaptable recipe that can be made to fit almost any taste. It makes a wonderful breakfast, brunch, or even supper meal plan that needs little more than some fruit to accompany it. It is also an inexpensive meal idea, and that is of more importance than ever in today's world. Here are three very different, equally delicious, recipes for quiche. The next time you are looking for an unusual menu, why not add one of these crowd pleasing quiche recipes?

Ham and Swiss Quiche:

Ingredients:

1 frozen 19" deep dish pie shell

8 large eggs

2 teaspoons onion powder

2 teaspoons garlic powder

2 teaspoons parsley

2 teaspoons chives

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon pepper

3/4 cup cubed ham

3/4 cup shredded swiss cheese

1/2 cup milk or whipping cream

Directions:

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. In a medium size bowl, whisk together eggs, onion powder, garlic powder, parsley, chives, salt and pepper until well blended. Add the milk or whipping cream and whisk until well combined. Set aside.

Spread the diced ham evenly in the bottom of the pie shell and top with the shredded cheese, making sure to evenly distribute the cheese. Pour egg mixture over the ham and cheese in the pie shell.

Place filled pie shell on a cookie sheet to prevent any spills or boil-overs in the oven. Place in oven and bake for about 45 minutes, or until a butter knife inserted in the center comes out clean. Serve with fruit and toast for a delicious complete meal.

Another variation of quiche recipe is spinach and swiss quiche. Most people who do not even like spinach will enjoy this quiche. It might be a good recipe to try if you have picky eaters in your family this might be one to try to get them to eat their vegetables.

Spinach and Swiss Quiche:

Ingredients:

1 frozen 19" deep dish pie shell

8 large eggs

1/2 teaspoon onion powder

1/4 teaspoon garlic salt

1 teaspoon parsley

1 teaspoon chives

1/2 teaspoon white pepper

2/3 cup fresh or frozen spinach

1 cup shredded swiss cheese

1/2 cup whipping cream

Directions:

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. If using frozen spinach, thaw completely. Cut or tear spinach into bite size pieces. You can also use a package of frozen creamed spinach to simplify this step, but thaw completely first. Layer the spinach evenly in the bottom of the pie shell, and top with shredded cheese. Set the partially filled pie shell aside.
