"Horde of Notions" is a 5/5 legendary elemental that is all five colors. It is a blue creature, a red creature, a white creature, a black creature, and a green creature at the same time. This is one of the cards the Magic the Gathering expansion set known as "Lorwyn." It is one of the cards in the Lorwyn block that encourage players to build around a certain theme or tribe of creatures. In this case, players are encouraged to build around elementals. In an elemental themed deck, you can get much play from Horde of Notions.
The converted mana cost for Horde of Notions is five. You will need one mana of each color to bring Horde of Notions onto the battlefield. For what Horde of Notions can do, the converted mana cost is well worth it. Keep in mind that Horde of Notions is a legendary creature and is subjugated to the "legendary rule." If there are exactly two cards at least on the battlefield named Horde of Notions, they both get sent to the graveyard.
What does Horde of Notions do in the first place?
Horde of Notions has a bunch of great abilities for the most part. The first ability of Horde of Notions is that it has Vigilance. When Horde of Notions attacks, it does not need to tap. In this respect, Horde of Notions can attack and defend at the same time.
The second ability of Horde of Notions is that is has Trample. When Horde of Notions attacks and your opponent has a means to block, s/he is still taking combat damage in the process. For any attacking creature, Trample is an awesome ability to have. It shows that you can still deal combat damage.
The third ability is that the Horde of Notions has Haste. As soon as Horde of Notions enters the battlefield, it can attack. It is unaffected by summoning sickness.
However, none of those abilities serve as the main one of Horde of Notions. Those three abilities are pretty much perks.
What is the main ability?
The main ability would entice one to play an elemental themed deck. By paying one mana of each color, you can play a target elemental card from your graveyard without paying its mana cost. In a sense, it is like a built-in "Yawgmoth's Will" for elementals. However, you do not need to remove them from the game when they get sent to the graveyard. On top of this, you do not even need to tap Horde of Notions to use this ability. If you have the mana, you can bring back several elementals.
If you have an expensive elemental card, you can simply discard it. In the graveyard, you can simply pay the cost of that ability to bring the elemental card onto the battlefield. This also gives you much use for the nonbasic land known as "Primal Beyond." You can tap it for one mana of any color to spend on elemental spells or to activate abilities of elementals.
Overall, this is a great card to have for the most part if you are building an elemental deck. If you are playing with elementals, you should definitely get the Horde of Notions.
