Five color creatures are rare in magic the gathering, but those which exist have generally been quite impressive. The reason for this is simple enough, with each color you add to the casting cost of a creature the difficult of putting it into play increases considerably more than adding the same mana of a single color. By the time that you have reached a five color cost you are forced to build a deck around the idea of five colors making it nessisary for the creature to be powerful enough to entice you into doing so.
Horde of Notions is a rare legendary elemental creature from the Lorwyn expansion set of magic the gathering. It costs one red mana, one green mana, one blue mana, one white mana and one black mana to put into play. It is a 5/5 creature with vigilance, trample and haste, which alone makes it a reasonable cost for five mana, but not for five mana of five different colors. That leads to its ability.
The ability of Hord of Notions costs, one black mana, one white mana, one blue mana, one green mana and one red mana and reads "You may play target Elemental card from your graveyard without paying its mana cost."
It is worth noting that this ability does not require you to tap this creature. This is valuable because it does not stop you from attacking each turn with your 5/5 vigilance, trampling creature. It also means that if you can get enough mana to use it multiple times a turn you are able to do so.
The biggest problem with this creature, beyond the difficulty of the casting cost which can be overcome with dual lands, birds of paradise and the like is the fact that it is going to be the primary target of every removal spell that your opponent has. The reason for this is clear, no other creature is going to remain dead while it is in play. For this reason cards that protect your investment may not be a bad idea. Whispersilk cloak is a excellent first choice, not only making it very difficult to kill, but unblockable as well. A strong wall of blue counterspells is also reasonable, as are a few reanimation spells.
The longer the game goes the stronger a card like this becomes but not matter when you put it into play it is likely to be the center point of the game until it is removed and you can not ask much more of any creature than that.
