Halloween craft ideas for kindergarten classrooms

Kindergarten, the time between preschool and First Grade. The children are learning and still excited about learning, and one of the things that excites them the most is crafts!. One of the fun times for crafts is Halloween! But what are some fun Halloween crafts that can be done but kindergarten students in the classroom?

One thing to do is to get miniature gourds and even squash and make little Jack-o-lanterns. It is probably not a good idea to let a 5 year old use a carving knife, but the faces can easily be painted on with water color paints. You can also make some flour paste, color it with food dye and then add on hair, ears or even eyebrows. The paste and paints are all safe and can be washed off, then the gourds or squash used for Thanksgiving!

A fun craft that all the children will enjoy is making masks. All you really need is cardboard and some elastic or string. Use the cardboard to make a face, anything from cats to aliens from outer space! You can use that flour paste to make more three dimensional. add small warts, cuts and maybe an extra nose. Keep the paste thin and slightly roughen the cardboard and it will stick on better. Use the string or elastic to make it as a band to hold on the face.

Witches hats are always easy for young children to make. Make a paper cone, mount it on a wide circle of cardboard and then paint it black. It will look more exciting if they add on a few stars and a crescent moon. To make it look even more decrepit, use thin strands of cotton around the sides and now the witches hat has it's own spider webs!

Every child at Halloween needs a goody bag and the children can make and decorate their own. Paper sacks are simplest and easily decorated, but might be thickened by either gluing one inside the other or putting paper newspapers glued inside. The outside of the bag can be decorated using paints, crayons or even magic markers. Have them roll the edges to keep the bags from splitting down the sides.

So, miniature Jack-o-lanterns, Halloween Masks, witches hats and goody bags. The children should be all set for a crafty Halloween, and it wasn't very expensive or difficult. Kindergarten Halloween crafts is something that the students will remember, and so will everybody else!
