Much like every other aspect of your big day, the flowers you choose should be individual to you, and suit your personality and temperament.
If you prefer a natural and unfussy look, you might want to stick with a simple hand tied bouquet of one or two types of garden flowers. Full blown romantic? You're probably going to need a full trailing bouquet. Bit of a drama queen? Shop around for a modern florist who will be able to tailor make the perfect design. If it's glamor you're after, you can bling up your bouquet with diamante pins and strings of beads and ribbons.
There is one other thing they have to match, though, and that is your budget. A good rule of thumb is to allow anything from five to ten percent of your overall budget for flowers. Once you have decided on your budget, try not to be tempted to stray too far from it. Remember, a small overspend in every area can add up to a much bigger bill than anticipated, and your enjoyment of the event could end up being clouded by worries about the cost.
Wedding flowers can traditionally be considered in three parts: church, reception and wedding party, although if you're getting married in a civil venue, of course, you only have one area to think about decorating.
Most brides naturally think about the bouquet first, and follow on from there. A good option is to tie the colors of the bride's bouquet in with that of the bridesmaids dresses, choosing a style to match the bridal gown. It's then relatively simple to opt for a scaled back version of the brides' bouquet or a smaller complimentary style for the bridesmaids. Wrist corsages are currently very popular for adult bridesmaids who will be expected to supervise young children throughout the day, as this enables them to keep their hands free.
Toddler flower girls or younger bridesmaids may look sweet with alice bands or other novelties, but they also have a tendency to get bored and play with them to destruction. When choosing flowers for younger members of the wedding party, opt for safe over cute. Check carefully there are no poisonous flowers in any arrangement you give them, and keep wires to a minimum. Simple pomanders on well secured ribbons, or baskets of petals are popular choices with good reason. Even then, take photographs early on, and try to remember the ceremony itself might not live up to their expectations, and the flowers make a good diversion.
Corsages for mums and grandmothers may be chosen to match the rest of the wedding party, or to match
