How to make a Pilgrim centerpiece for Thanksgiving

Creating a Pilgrim centerpiece for your Thanksgiving table, one in which will delight your children as well as your adults, should be easy. It should be planned and made weeks earlier, although if you've forgotten this part of the celebration and must improvise at the last moment, that should not be too difficult. If of course you possess a plastic real size turkey then you are in luck. You simply arrange this on a decorative platter with appropriate greenery around and have it guarded with miniature soldiers wearing Pilgrim hats. You make pilgrim hats with black play dough for the soldiers and make all their weapons look like those the Pilgrims used.

Or a real turkey on a large colorful platter that sits in the middle of the table and is carved by the host as each one passes their plate around is one way. This is awkward and in no time what you have to stare at is a mutilated turkey. The best way is to carve the turkey first, especially if the dinner is buffet and the tables are only for eating. Enough procrastination here lets get together some Thanksgiving dinner centerpieces.

An arrangement of decorative gourds and pumpkins and popcorn with husks is an easy arrangement. You could place a Pilgrim or two among them to give it that perfect look. It would be the perfect setting for that large cranberry colored platter you seldom get to use. Have enough of these to give each diner one to take home with them. Or, have their name already on a pasted on a small name tag. Or another suggestion is to have them to select one to give a Christmas gift. Usually this is the time of year this chore is taken care of, especially in large families.

A bowl of floating candles in the shape of boats would be appropriate. If an extra large container such as a casserole dish is used and partially filled with water then an artful arrangement of shore - with white sand - corn meal - and a palm tree or two with colored water suggestive of an ocean and a welcoming Pilgrim or two waiting on the shore for the floating boats would fit nicely on the Thanksgiving table. Even floating candles without all the surrounding fuss would be appropriate at a fanciful meal. They would be especially appropriate if they were Pilgrims. However, for the simple souls who really rather improvise than go into the details of hard work putting together centerpieces, than a simple low flower arrangement would do.

Or have a crafted Indian Village with a recreated Thanksgiving table in the center. Have small
