The lure of female vampire art
What's the lure?
It's sexy!
That's the lure of vampires, period.
Pre-teen, teen and tween prostitots don't read all these Twilight novels and see the movies because the dynamic storytelling. They consume it because it gives them funny butter fly feelings in the tummy that they just can't quite explain.
Well lo and behold it is the same way for guys (and some girls), albeit with a different physical response.
Vampires (both make and female) represent the epitome of bad decision making; they are evil and break all the rules. When added to that, the inherent beauty of femininity the result is the ultimate bad girl.
The female vampire represents all the darker fantasies a man can have. She is many things: femme fatale, succubus, dominatrix, and temptress. She is in control, on top, dominant, alluring, possessor (not possession), confident, aggressive and sexually assertive. She's the girl you have fun with, but don't take home to and marry. Mind you, it's not that you wouldn't take her home to meet mom if you could, it's that she doesn't want to meet your mother. To the female vampire you are nothing more then a toy (or snack) to be disposed of when no longer needed.
It is for these reasons that we glamorize, fantasize and fetishize the female vampire. We eagerly line up and pay money to see Kate Beckinsale and Rhona Mitra dressed up in leather and fangs. Gleefully do we sit down on Sunday night, channel turned to HBO. To watch Evan Rachel Wood's Queen play with Bill Compton and Eric like a cat with a ball of string. It is no mistake that last October's Playboy, cover is a Sapphic scene of a woman biting another and I guarantee you that his Halloween (aside from the nurses and French maids) the vampire outfit was a favorite once again at all the parties.
The lure of the female vampire is simple: fantasy. It is sexual fantasy, supernatural fantasy, fantasy involving empowerment and fantasy involving submission. It is an innocent outlet for all of us to get a thrill now and again. It's the guilty pleasure that we allow ourselves to admit we have, not only to ourselves but also to others. It is perhaps one of the few universally acceptable kinks that are out there. As I said, the lure is that it is sexy, simple.
