Magic the Gathering card analysis: Elvish Promenade

Created on: November 02, 2009

"Elvish Promenade" is a green sorcery spell printed as an uncommon for the Magic the Gathering expansion set known as "Lorwyn." Originally, it was printed for Lorwyn. It would seem that this card was good enough to be reprinted for the special duel deck set known as "Duel Decks: Elves vs. Goblins." It should not be surprising that Elvish Promenade would be printed for the elf side for Duel Decks: Elves vs. Goblins. This is one of the cards in the Lorwyn block that encourage players to build around a theme or sub-theme of creatures.

The converted mana cost for Elvish Promenade if four. You will need one green mana and three colorless mana to cast Elvish Promenade. For what Elvish Promenade can do, the converted mana cost is well worth it. Since this is a sorcery spell, you can only cast Elvish Promenade during your turn. To get the most out of Elvish Promenade, you will want to build around elves.

What does Elvish Promenade do in the first place?

When you cast Elvish Promenade, you get to put a 1/1 elf warrior token on the battlefield for each elf on the battlefield under your control. In this respect, you can double the amount of elves you have on the battlefield. There are many ways you can plenty out of Elvish Promenade. If you have seven elves on the battlefield, Elvish Promenade lets you put seven 1/1 green elf warrior tokens onto the battlefield.

How do you get the most out of Elvish Promenade?

One way would be combining this with "Rhys the Redeemed." You can use its second ability to put a copy of a token creature for each creature token you control. In this respect, you can use its second ability to creature copies of those tokens you generated via Elvish Promenade. This is one combination that allows you to get a bunch of elves let alone elf warriors in the process.

Another way would be to combine this with "Elvish Vanguard." Using the example of putting seven of those tokens onto the battlefield, you get to put seven +1/+1 counters on Elvish Vanguard.

You can also use "Bramblewood Paragon." Whenever another warrior creature enters the battlefield under your control, it gets a +1/+1 counter on it. Creatures with +1/+1 counters on it have Trample. In this respect, this causes Elvish Promenade to spit out 2/2 elf warrior tokens.

With cards such as "Priest of Titania," you have an excellent source of mana acceleration.

Overall, Elvish Promenade is a great card to have if you are building around elves. If you are building an elf-themed deck, Elvish Promenade is definitely a card you want to look into for the most part.
