Poetry: My dear mother

My dear mother, it has been two full years since you have been gone. I am still in denial that you are gone. It seems like it was just the other day that you were making light of your malady. But, I knew better; that's the way you expressed yourself, with humor.

My dear mother, physically, I knew you weren't your elf. After all, it had been quite a while since you had descended the stairs. You were trapped with those legs. You took refuge in your bed! And, it broke my heart to know I could not mend your broken heart. No one could. You were hurting....how selfish of me to want you living!

My dear mother, you were a special, strong, beautiful and God-fearing woman! Thank you for life and all the lessons you taught me. You were one of a kind; you were a self-made woman!

My dear mother, thank you for life.
