Magic the Gathering card analysis: Elvish Harbinger

"Elvish Harbinger" is a 1/2 green elf druid printed as an uncommon for the Magic the Gathering expansion set known as "Lorwyn." While this card is originally printed in Lorwyn, it seemed popular enough to be reprinted for the duel decks set known as "Duel Decks: Elves vs. Goblins." Elvish Harbinger is a prime example on how green out of all five colors in Magic the Gathering has the best mana fixing and mana acceleration. This is a prime example on how elves are responsible for green having the best of mana acceleration.

The converted mana cost for Elvish Harbinger is three. You will need one green mana and two colorless mana to bring Elvish Harbinger from your hand and onto the battlefield. For what Elvish Harbinger can do, the casting cost is well worth it. In an elf-themed deck, Elvish Harbinger is an excellent source of mana fixing.

What does the Elvish Harbinger do in the first place?

As soon as Elvish Harbinger enters the battlefield, you can search for an elf card in your library if you want. If you do, reveal that elf card and put it on top of your library. Then, you shuffle your library. You can search your library for a card such as "Priest of Titania." In this respect, you get to great benefits.

The main ability lets you tap Elvish Harbinger for one mana of any color. Being able to tap for one mana of any color is incredibly great to have. In a sense, this is somewhat on par with "Birds of Paradise" and "Unity Tree." Birds of Paradise costs only one green mana while Unity Tree costs one green mana and one colorless mana.

Since elves are no longer just green, Elvish Harbinger is an excellent card to have. This enables you to be able to cast certain elf cards that do not use green mana. Today, it is very possible to make five-color elf decks. The main thing would be the mana fixing that one has to deal with. One can solve that with artifacts and nonbasic lands. With elves, you can use various elf cards. Elvish Harbinger is one of those cards you can use.

If you combine this with "Mana Reflection," you can tap Elvish Harbinger for two mana of any color.

Overall, the Elvish Harbinger is a great card to have for mana fixing in an elf deck. For any elf deck, you should have the Elvish Harbinger on hand.
