How to apply make-up correctly

by M. J. Joachim

Make-up was designed to highlight features, not hide them. It is a tool that women use to accent the color of their eyes, tone of their skin, and beauty of their expression. It is only a tool women use to enhance their features, ultimately making them more attractive to their respective partners. Applying make-up therefore, requires skill, technique, color coordination, and a gentle touch.

*How to Apply Cover Up: The first thing you want to apply when putting on make-up is cover up. Your cover up should be a tad lighter than your skin tone and used sparingly. You want to dab your cover up on any blemishes and under puffy eyes. Do not put cover up over open blemishes, as it could cause them to bleed, ooze, and become infected.

*How to Apply Foundation: When applying foundation it is a good idea to use a make-up sponge. Put just a little bit and use a circular motion to lightly cover your skin. Never rub foundation into your skin, as this will stretch it, leaving creases and unsightly lines in the overall effect. It is also important to blend the foundation under your chin and down your neck. Otherwise, you will appear to have outlined your face in make-up, as opposed to highlighting your features with it.

*How to Apply Blush: Look in the mirror and suck in your cheeks, so you can clearly see your cheekbone. While your cheeks are still sucked in, choose a darker shade of blush and apply sparingly just beneath the bone. Use a big soft brush, hold the bristles firmly, and stroke back toward your hairline as you do this. Release your cheeks. Now take your second, lighter shade of blush, and with an even bigger soft brush, lightly highlight your cheek bone, gently blending both shades of blush where they meet. Do not hold the brush bristles tightly for this. Leave them loose and relaxed.

*How to Apply Eye Shadow: You can have fun mixing and matching colors when you apply eye shadow. The key is to use a medium shade on your lid, a darker shade in your crease, and a light shade beneath your eyebrow. If you choose the right color combination, you won't need to apply thick coats of eye shadow. Just enough to bring out the color of your eyes is more than adequate.

*How to Apply Eye Liner: Take your sharpened eyeliner pencil and bring it carefully from the outside corner of your eye to about half or three quarters of the way across the bottom of your eye. Only go one fourth to half the way on the top. Avoid outlining your entire eye, as that is exactly what it will look like, and it will take away from the beauty expressed in your eyes.

*How to Apply Mascara: Apply a very thin coat of mascara over your lashes, just enough to make them stand out and show your eyes. Carefully brush from the base of your eye outward, in thin, easy strokes.

*How to Apply Brow Pencil: Choose a shade that matches your eyebrows. With quick, sharp strokes, gently make light pencil marks. Smooth with a small brush to blend.

*How to Apply Lip Liner: Choose a shade that is slightly darker than your lipstick. Outline your lips in a smooth, easy motion. For fuller lips, outline on the very outer edge of your lips. For thinner lips, outline just inside the outer edge of your lips.

*How to Apply Lipstick: Using a back and forth motion, apply lipstick to your bottom lip. Using an up and down motion, apply lipstick to the top center of your lip, switching to a side to side motion to color the top sides of the lip. Match top and bottom lip to blend. Then put a tissue between your lips and press down, removing excess lipstick.

Using these simple tips, you will be able to apply make-up quickly and easily. You will look natural and people will notice you for your true beauty, rather than trying to figure out what you look like underneath too much make-up. Make-up is a fun tool women use to enhance their features, and when applied correctly, it can help turn a good impression into a great impression.
