"Hamletback Goliath" is a 6/6 red giant warrior printed as a rare for the Magic the Gathering expansion set known as "Lorwyn." This is somewhat a card that can be used in a giant-themed deck or a warrior-themed deck. With the right combination of cards, the Hamletback Goliath can become quite the devastating card. If you are playing aggressively, Hamletback Goliath becomes quite a terrifying card to have for the most part. In a few turns after Hamletback Goliath comes onto the battlefield, you can really hurt an opponent.
The converted mana cost for Hamletback Goliath is seven. You will need one red mana and six colorless mana to bring Hamletback Goliath from your hand and onto the battlefield. It is debatable on whether or not it is worth paying quite an expensive casting cost. Today, mana acceleration and mana fixing is quite simple for the most part.
What does Hamletback Goliath do in the first place?
Being a 6/6 creature is pretty good for the most part. However, you get to increase its power and toughness whenever another creature enters the battlefield. Whenever another creature enters the battlefield, you put X +1/+1 counters on the Hamletback Goliath. X is equal to the creature's power points. If a creature with the power of three enters the battlefield, you get to put three +1/+1 counters on the Hamletback Goliath. Keep in mind that it does not even need to be creatures that you control. That is a very simplistic ability. However, this is a great ability.
One can ask this: How do you get the most out of this ability?
There is one cheap way to do this. One would be to play the legendary creature known as "Norin the Wary." Whenever a player casts a spell or a creature attacks, Norin the Wary is temporarily exiled from the game. At the end of the next end step, Norin the Wary returns to the battlefield. Since it is a 2/1 creature, you get to put two +1/+1 counters on the Hamletback Goliath every few turns.
You can even play "Ball Lightning." You can attack an opponent for up to six points of damage with Ball of Lightning. While you have to sacrifice it at the end of your turn, you get to put six +1/+1 counters on Ball Lightning.
For attacking, you can equip Hamletback Goliath with "Whispersilk Cloak" to give it Shroud. Also, it makes Hamletback Goliath unblockable. With this combination, you can constantly attack with Hamletback Goliath for major points of damage. Also, you can use the red enchantment called "Rage Reflection" to give your creatures Double Strike.
In this respect, Hamletback Goliath being able to deal Double Strike damage is extremely effective. Equip Hamletback Goliath with Whispersilk Cloak along with having Rage Reflection on the battlefield, you are dealing insane amounts of damage to an opponent.
Overall, Hamletback Goliath is a pretty impressive creature to have. If you have certain cards on the battlefield, Hamletback Goliath is a major juggernaut.
