How to play dominoes

Playing Dominoes is a fun way to spend time with family and friends. However, there are some people that think playing dominoes is just setting them up on end so that they can all fall and create images. There is, however, a game to be played with a pack of dominoes.

First, you can get either a set of double six dominoes, or you can get a set of double nine dominoes. The double nine dominoes are better for large numbers of people as there are more dominoes to choose from. To start play, turn all of the dominoes face down and mix them up. Then each player picks out seven to ten dominoes, depending on the players' preference. Once all of the players have their dominoes, they have to look at them without showing them to the other players.

The player that has the highest domino with a double on it plays first. The person with the highest double will play the tile by putting it on the table. The next person, to the first players left, will the play a tile that has the same number as the tile on the table. For example, if the tile is a double four, and the player has a tile with a four and a three on it, then the player can play the four side of the tile on the double fours. The next player can then play either a three or a four.

If the player that is coming up does not have a tile to play, they go to the "bone yard". This is to say that the player takes tiles from the unpicked tiles from the start of the game until he finds one that he can play. With the object of the game to be the first person to run out of tiles, this can make winning a bit more difficult. Once you find a tile, you can play the tile and game moves to the next player. Now, if you have a double tile that you can play, then play can get really interesting.

Play can move out in a cross from the first double tile played. However, if you play a double tile after game play has started, then play can branch off in three directions from the double tile. This gives a multitude of directions for you to play, but there are still only the amount of numbers that you find in the domino set, either six or nine, depending of what set you bought.

Play ends when one player runs out of tiles. You have to keep score while you are playing, however, for the amount on the tiles that you put down is your score. When one person runs out, the dominoes that they have left are added up and the total is subtracted from the score that they laid down. Whenever my friends and I play, we set the score for the winner at about five hundred. The first person to reach five hundred wins the game.
